Graham Russell

Graham Cyril Russell was born on June 11, 1950, in Nottingham, England. From an early age he had a great interest in poetry, books, and music. He began writing poems by age 11 and songs the same year, 1961. Graham taught himself to play the guitar and drums; and after losing his mother, he became somewhat of a loner. Eventually, Graham found he could express his emotional loss through what he enjoyed most, writing poems and songs.

In 1967, he married his girlfriend from school, Linda. They had a son, Simon, the following year. Immediately the new family immigrated to Australia, to find "the yellow brick road". Graham then created his second band in Melbourne, Australia, where he began working solo in coffee houses and folk clubs, gaining a solid following on the solo-folk circuit. A daughter, Samantha, was born in March of 1972.

Graham joined the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" in 1975 as an Apostle and met Russell Hitchcock on the first day. He knew this show was the path to his goals. Russell and Graham made demos of original songs and began playing in clubs and everywhere they could sing. When "Superstar" announced it was closing after 18 months, Russell and Graham already had a single in Australia. It was under the name that Graham had in a dream where he saw the name on a giant billboard in lights. The name was "Air Supply".

Rod Stewart was touring Australia, in 1976 and asked Air Supply to open for him in there, and then in the US, in 1977. The band toured but did not break, much to their dismay. Back in Australia, in 1978, they eagerly recorded two more of Graham's songs, "Lost in Love" and "All Out of Love". "Lost In Love" was an instant hit in Australia, but Air Supply really wanted to get back to the US and the world. Graham's marriage to Linda ended in 1978.

Air Supply is still one of the biggest selling acts around the world. New albums are awaited eagerly by millions of fans from Alaska, to Beijing. New records are recorded customarily at Graham's mountain top studio, 7000 feet above sea level feet in Utah, where he and his wife, Jodi, rehabilitate and live with wild animals. They feel honored to be "connected with nature" which Graham believes is the pathway to the door to God and the universe.
